The Evangelical Church of Burgen is one of three churches of the Evangelical Parish of Veldenz in the village of Burgen of the Rhenish Church in the church district of Trier.

history

Before the Reformation, the church was consecrated to the Evangelist Mark and a branch of Veldenz . During the Reformation the church became Protestant, at the beginning of the Thirty Years War it became a simultaneous church , namely for the Protestant part as a branch church of Veldenz and for the Catholic part as a branch church of Dusemond (today Brauneberg ). The Simultaneum was dissolved at the end of the 19th century when the Catholics built a new church.

The church is a plastered quarry stone building with 14.50 m length, 9.20 m width and 5 m height inside the church. The nave with a rounded wooden ceiling was built in 1716 in the same size as the previous building. The somewhat older flat-roofed choir probably dates from the end of the 17th century. The church has a stone Renaissance - pulpit from 1682 with considerable relief ornaments in the style of metal cartridges, a rosette and two grotesque masks.

tower

The church has a Romanesque west tower with sound arcades from the 11th century with built-in Roman bricks on the original site of a Franconian defense tower. The tower is square with an edge length of 3.5 m. 1880, the tower was given an octagonal pointed spire .

use

The church is one of three churches in the Protestant parish of Veldenz. Currently (2015) there is a regular Sunday service in the parish. This alternates in rotation between the Church in Burgen, the Evangelical Church Veldenz and the Evangelical Church Gornhausen , so that a service takes place in Burgen about every third week. The parish of Veldenz has had a parish relationship with the parish of Mülheim an der Mosel since 2011 .
