The Evangelical Church Oberkirn is a church in Upper Kirn in Hunsrück the evangelical church Rhaunen - Hausen , in the district of Birkenfeld, in Rhineland-Palatinate . It goes back to the early 16th century.

The place Oberkirn was part of the Rhaunen office . The place has had a branch chapel of the parish of Hausen in the Hunsrück, which was converted in the 18th century using older components, since the 16th century .

Architecture and equipment

The church in Oberkirn is a hall building with a turret and a wide saddle roof, probably from the 16th century. The surrounding walls are probably still late Gothic (16th century), but were rebuilt in the 18th century. The church is 14.50 m long and 11.90 m wide. Like many other churches in the area, it has a curved wooden ceiling. Outside on the south side of the church is the grave slab of the knight Franz Brune von Schmidtburg (died 1573), which used to be inside the church. The interior of the church was fundamentally redesigned from 1954 to 1956. The curved wooden ceiling, originally supported by three wooden pillars, is only visible above the separated west gallery.

The church is a branch church of the parish of Hausen, which has been parochial connected with Rhaunen since 2004 and merged in 2012. Since 2011 there has been a connection between the community of Rhaunen-Hausen and Hottenbach-Stipshausen. There are nine preaching sites in the community. Services take place about once a month.
