The Evangelical Church Veldenz is one of three churches of the Evangelical Parish in Veldenz of the Rhenish Regional Church in the church district of Trier. It doesn't have its own tower. The bells and clock are housed in the slightly separated tower of the former church.

history

The tower above today's church has been preserved from the previous medieval building. The Reformation was introduced in Veldenz as early as the first half of the 16th century . In the course of the re-Catholicization during the French occupation and the freedom of religion declared in this context, this church had to be made available to the Catholic community as a simultaneous church since 1868 . The Simultaneum was dissolved in 1880 and the church became the sole property of the Protestant parish in return for a severance payment. Due to considerable structural damage, the nave had to be replaced by a new building. For this a place was chosen a little below the previous church, so that the medieval tower still serves as a clock and bell tower, but has no direct connection to the church.

The church was renovated for the first time in 1929, and in 1945 the glazing was destroyed by artillery fire. In the course of the renovation in 1973, the church received its current simple light-colored painting.

The neo-Gothic church was built according to the design and under the direction of the Trier architect and master builder Reinhold Wirtz . The foundation stone was laid on May 12, 1886, the inauguration on August 25, 1887.

The nave is designed as a hexagon with an edge length of eight meters. The five-sided apse adjoins to the east and a rectangular structure, which is accompanied by two stair towers, with the organ loft. The remaining polygon sides of the nave are extended by half hexagons. A hexagonal pyramid with a roof turret without bells rises above the nave above a star vault . The church stalls consist of straight benches to the left and right of the central aisle.

The organ is on the gallery in the western extension. The church originally had a capacity of 520 seats, which was reduced to 420 seats in 1973 by installing heating in the gallery apses.

use

The church is one of three churches in the Protestant parish of Veldenz. Currently (2015) there is a regular Sunday service in the parish. This changes in rotation between the church in Veldenz, the Evangelical Church of Burgen and the Evangelical Church of Gornhausen , so that a service takes place in Veldenz about every third week. The parish of Veldenz has had a parish relationship with the parish of Mülheim an der Mosel since 2011 .
