Church from the outside

The Evangelical Church Bruchweiler is the church in Bruchweiler of the Protestant parish Schauren-Kempfeld-Bruchweiler in Schauren in the Hunsrück , a municipality in the Birkenfeld district in Rhineland-Palatinate . Today's church is similar to the church in Schauren, a baroque hall from the 18th century with an altar, galleries and pulpit from the time it was built. The organ by the Stumm brothers and the parapet paintings on the west gallery are remarkable.

Bruchweiler was first mentioned in a document in 1279. The chapel belonged to the Wirschweiler parish for a long time , after the church was built in 1746 it was connected to Sensweiler as a separate parish .

Architecture and equipment

The east-facing church was built in 1744–46 as a plastered quarry stone building. The choir has a three-sided choir closure, six arched windows and an ox-eye on the west side. The iron frames are made of Hunsrück iron.

The entrance area on the west side is protected by a porch typical of the Hunsrück. The inscription on the lintel of the rectangular entrance on the south side reads: BEWARE YOUR FOOT WHEN YOU GO TO GOD'S HOUSE THAT YOU COME AND HEAR WHAT GOT SAYS THROUGH HIS SERVANT. ANNO 1744.

The furnishings come from the time it was built: the presbyter and parish chairs are fretwork. The pulpit with a polygonal basket and crown-shaped sound cover is made of wood with acantus carvings at the corners and the four evangelist images . The paintings on the arched wooden ceiling are no longer preserved, but 19 pictures from the Old Testament and the life of Jesus on the parapet of the gallery. Unlike in Schauren, scenes from the Old Testament are also shown.

The roof turret at the west end of the ship is square at the bottom and merges into an octagon at the top.

use

The parish Bruchweiler belonged temporarily to the parish of Sensweiler, then again to Schauren. The current parish of Schauren-Kempfeld-Bruchweiler has existed since 1974 and has been parochial with the Protestant parish of Wirschweiler-Allenbach-Sensweiler since 2011. A total of six churches and nine preaching posts are to be served in the two parishes. In Bruchweiler currently (2015) a service is celebrated once every three weeks (alternating with Schauren and Kempfeld ) and on the church holidays.
