The Evangelical Church of Hochscheid is the Evangelical village church in Hochscheid , a municipality in the district of Bernkastel-Wittlich in Rhineland-Palatinate .

history

A chapel, probably dedicated to St. Aegidius , was first mentioned in 1530. It is described as destroyed in 1743, possibly due to damage in the Thirty Years War . The chapel and tower were rebuilt in 1751. In 1790, however, only the three-story tower, which bears the year 1780, stood. In the chapel there was a bell from 1629 with the inscription “ Johann Burchart Trarbach Pfarher zu Clenich. Johann Schüßler church master. Anno MDCXXIX "hung up.

In 1920, a room used as a winter school , kindergarten and practice room for the music club was added to the tower. Around 1960 a small hall church was added to the tower. Hochscheid was never its own parish, but always belonged to Kleinich . The merger of the parishes of Kleinich , Hirschfeld-Horbruch and Krummenau took place in 2008. Since then, services have been held in Hochscheid every two weeks.

architecture

The small church in the middle of the village on the edge of the Roman road has a wooden altarpiece and a bell from 1530. The low tower is crowned by a bell-shaped storey and a retracted pointed helmet. The adjoining unplastered nave made of quarry stone masonry has arched windows and an arched entrance.
