history
A sanctuary of Apollo and Sirona from the 2nd century AD was excavated in Hochscheid . There was also the inscription "DEO APOLLINI ET SANCTE SIRONE", whereby "Apollini" refers to the healing god Apollo Grannus , who was identified with Apollon in the course of the Interpretatio Romana .
Hochscheid belonged to the rear county of Sponheim .
The first chapel stood before 1529. It was probably dedicated to St. Dedicated to Aegidius . This chapel was destroyed in 1743, probably already during the Thirty Years War . In 1752 the chapel was rebuilt, but in 1790 only the tower was still standing. A winter school was later added to this tower. In the chapel was a bell from 1629 with the inscription “ Johann Burchart Trarbach Pfarher zu Clenich. Johann Schüßler church master. Anno MDCXXIX "hung up.
Since 1946 the place has been part of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate .
