Niederscheidweiler is a municipality in the district of Bernkastel-Wittlich in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Verbandsgemeinde Wittlich-Land .
geography
Niederscheidweiler lies on the edge of the Vulkaneifel on the wooded ridge above the Alf and Sammetbachtal.
The Eichenhof, Lindenhof, Sonnenhof and Windhof residential areas belong to Niederscheidweiler .
history
Niederscheidweiler was first mentioned in 893 in the Prümer Urbar . In the Middle Ages and in the early modern period, the place belonged to the Electorate of Trier . From 1794 Niederscheidweiler was under French rule, in 1815 the place was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna . Since 1946 it has been part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate .
Municipal council
The local council in Niederscheidweiler consists of six council members, who were elected by a majority vote in the local elections on May 26, 2019 , and the honorary local mayor as chairman.
Culture and sights
The “ Devon ” georoute is a hiking trail through the area. The tower of the St. Hubertus church dates from the 12th or 13th century
