Heidenburg im Hunsrück is a municipality in the district of Bernkastel-Wittlich in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Verbandsgemeinde Thalfang am Erbeskopf .
geography
Heidenburg lies south of the Moselle loop Leiwen - Trittenheim . Between Heidenburg and the Moselle is the deep valley cut of the Kleine Dhron , which feeds the Dhrontalsperre nearby . The mountain ranges around Heidenburg offer a wonderful scenic view: the Moselle valley from Klüsserath via Leiwen, Trittenheim to Neumagen-Dhron . The mountains of the Eifel and the Erbeskopf as the highest elevation in Rhineland-Palatinate , the Dhrontalsperre and covered by trees, the Dhrönchen, the birthplace of the poet Stefan Andres . In addition to the view into the distance, there is also a variety of plants and animals in the meadows and forests of Heidenburg.
history
Heidenburg was first mentioned in a document in 1053. A silver ring found here with an inscription to the Celtic god Iovantucarus indicates an old settlement. Due to the turmoil of the French Revolution , Heidenburg came under French rule around 1800 and became part of the Kingdom of Prussia in 1814 . Since 1946 the place has been part of the newly founded state of Rhineland-Palatinate. Since the municipal administration reform of Rhineland-Palatinate in 1969, the Hunsrückort has been part of the Thalfang am Erbeskopf community . In 1997 the municipality was awarded the title “Federal Winner Child and Family-Friendly Municipality”.
