Reinhold Wirtz (master builder)

Reinhold Wirtz (born March 15, 1842 in Hellenthal ; † May 5, 1898 in Trier ) was a German architect , local district and diocesan master builder for the diocese of Trier .

Life

Reinhold Wirtz received his training at the Dombauhütte Cologne . From 1861 to 1868 he worked in Vinzenz Statz's office. In 1868 Wirtz moved to Trier, where he took over the local construction management for the restoration of the Church of Our Lady . Here he becomes a local official. In 1888 he was appointed master builder for the cathedral.

Reinhold Wirtz was married to Theresia Hubertine Wirtz, née Paffendorf, since 1869, and Julius Wirtz, who later became master builder of the cathedral, came from their marriage .

The architect Carl Rüdell is one of his students .
