Carl Rüdell (born September 13, 1855 in Trier , † May 26, 1939 in Cologne ; full name: Carl Michael Rüdell ) was a German architect and watercolor painter .

Life

Rüdell's father produced billiard and bowling balls in Trier. His brother was the architect Alexander Rüdell . From 1872 Rüdell lived in Cologne and was trained by Reinhold Wirtz and Johann Theodorus Stracke (1817-1891). Under August Carl Lange (1834-1883) he became state construction manager in 1872 and worked with Heinrich Nagelschmidt (1822-1902). From 1888 at the latest, he worked as a freelancer in collaboration with the architect Richard Odenthal in Cologne.

As a painter, he preferred motifs from the Rhineland, especially those related to the carnival. He continued this artistic activity well into old age. Over 2000 paintings and drawings are attributed to him.

The marriage with Christina Paulina (née Empt) in 1882 resulted in three sons and a daughter.

His grave is located in the Melaten cemetery in Cologne (hall 45).

Honor

The Rüdellstraße in Cologne's Garden City North (district Longerich ) is named after him.
