Alexander Rüdell (born September 6, 1852 in Trier , † December 14, 1920 in Berlin ) was a German architect and Prussian construction officer in the state railway construction administration.

Life

Rüdell grew up in Trier and Jülich. His brother was the architect and painter Carl Rüdell . After eleven years of construction in Trier, he studied at the Berlin Bauakademie from 1872 to 1875 . At the beginning of 1876 he passed the construction manager examination . He gained practical experience during his legal traineeship building the Anhalter Bahnhof in Berlin under Franz Schwechten and building the train station in Sarreguemines . At the end of the 1870s he went to Vienna for further studies and returned to Berlin in 1881. In 1884 he passed the 2nd state examination and began the assessment as a government master builder in the state railway construction administration. After a short period in Düsseldorf , Rüdell returned to Berlin and worked in the Prussian Ministry of Public Works from 1893 until his death . From 1900 on he held a leading position in the railway construction administration. His main focus was the design of buildings. At the beginning of the 20th century, a number of stations were expanded and expanded, many of them were given new station buildings . Rüdell was involved in the design of a large number of buildings. He often worked with other architects, mostly leading the project. Many buildings were created in collaboration with Fritz Klingholz and later with Karl Cornelius .

In 1911 Rüdell became an extraordinary member and in 1919 a full member of the Prussian Academy of Building ; also in 1919 he received an honorary doctorate (as Dr.-Ing. E. h.) from the Technical University of Braunschweig . He died in Berlin in 1920 and was buried in Trier.
