Prosterath is a district of the local community Beuren (Hochwald) in the district of Trier-Saarburg in Rhineland-Palatinate with about 150 inhabitants.

location

The village is located in the western Hunsrück on the eastern edge of the Osburger Hochwald . Beuren is about a kilometer south of the village. To the east of the village it is steep and impassable into the Dhrontal .

history

According to a document from 1023 "Probesderuot" (Propstrodung) belonged to the provost of St. Maximin , in 1701 a first chapel was mentioned, which is dedicated to St. Anthony of Padua . In the 18th / 19th In the 17th century, Peter Cornely ran an outpatient (wandering) bell foundry from here . The lily of Antony and the bell can be found on the former municipal coat of arms.

On March 17, 1974, the previously independent community of Prosterath with then 209 inhabitants was incorporated into Beuren (Hochwald).

Attractions

Today's chapel was built in 1888 in neo-Gothic style according to plans from the office of the Cologne diocesan master builder Vincenz Statz , on which his son Franz Statz probably also worked shortly before he took over the architectural office. The small tall three-axis hall church with a slightly drawn-in three-sided closing choir is vaulted with cross ribs. The completely preserved neo-Gothic furnishings are remarkable . The highlight is the winged altar, created in 1896 by a master Caspar Weis, Frankfurt am Main, with plenty of figural decorations and wooden reliefs with scenes from the legend of Saint Anthony of Padua .

traffic

The place is connected by the district road 94 beginning in Prosterath to Beuren and the state roads 148 and 152 to the A 1 leading to the west .

tourism

The place with its remarkable natural monuments, the Prosterather Wacken, a quartzite reef, is connected by the Rockenburger Urwaldpfad , a dream loop of the Saar-Hunsrück-Steig in the Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park .
