location

The place is on the northern edge of the Black Forest high forest south of the Moselle in the Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park . In the West, some houses are already the place on the municipal area of Geisfeld .

Right next to the village is the site of the Hermeskeil flight exhibition .

history

The abbey with its 500 inhabitants today goes back to a settlement of Walloon skilled workers for iron processing and their families who settled in the area in the 19th century. For them, the place and (only very many years later) a Catholic church in a mainly Protestant environment was built according to plan in 1834. The abbey has been part of Hermeskeil since 1931.

Even if the place is still dominated by the countryside, agriculture is practically no longer the main occupation.
