Itaberaí , officially Portuguese Município de Itaberaí , is a Brazilian political municipality and city in the state of Goiás . It is located west of the Brazilian capital Brasília and northwest of the capital Goiânia .
Origin of name
Itataberaí means flow of brilliant stones in the indigenous language of the Tupi .
history
The place was first known as Curralinho and belonged to the city of Goiás, today Goiás Velo, on November 9, 1868 (considered the city's foundation date) it was spun off with the status of Vila and was called Vila de Nossa Senhora D'Abadia do Curralinho . On August 5, 1924, it was raised to the rank of town and given the name Itaberaí.

The city is located on the Brazilian federal highway BR-070 , from which the state road GO-070 branches off in Itaberaí to the capital Goiânia .
Hydrography
The municipal area drains north into the Tocantins Basin over the Rio Uru , which forms the western border with Mossâmedes and Goiás Velho and rises in the Serra Dourada . Its two right tributaries, which also arise in the municipality, are the Rio do Bagre and Rio das Pedras . The Rio Uru flows into the Rio das Almas on the northern border of the municipality of Uruana , a tributary to the Serra da Mesa reservoir .
The watershed to the southern Paraná basin runs roughly along the southern municipal boundary.
economy
In Itaberaí there is a large poultry farm and factory (SuperFrango) with a processing capacity of around 180,000 chickens per day and more than ten million hatching eggs per month in 2010.
