Formosa is a Brazilian political municipality and city in the state of Goiás in the mesoregion East Goiás and in the micro-region Entorno de Brasília . It is located east of the Brazilian capital Brasília and east-northeast of the capital Goiânia .
Formosa has been the seat of the Brazilian diocese of Formosa since 1956 . The Cathedral of Nossa Senhora da Imaculada Conceição is named after the Immaculate Conception of Mary .
In addition to the city of Formosa, the administrative center in the west of the municipality, which borders directly on the federal district, the municipality includes the villages of Santa Teresa, Bezerra, São Judas Tadeu, Salto do Itiquira, Crixalândia, Pedra Preta, Boa Esperança, Pé-da-Serra, Santa Rosa, Olaria, Boa Vista and Strass Burger.

- to the east at Vila Boa and Buritis ( MG )
- in the south at Cabeceiras and Cabeceira Grande (MG)
- in the west to the federal districts of Brasília and Planaltina
- in the northwest at Água Fria de Goiás
East of Formosa springs from the Rio Paranã that in the state of Tocantins as a right tributary to the Rio Tocantins flows. South of the federal highway BR-030, Formosa drains into the Rio São Francisco basin , north of it into the Tocantins / Araguaia basin .
