Mundo Novo , officially Portuguese Município de Mundo Novo , German New World , is a Brazilian municipality in the state of Goiás in the Midwest region . It is located northwest of the Brazilian capital Brasília and the state capital Goiânia . It has a large municipal area that can be used for agriculture in relation to the population. As of July 1, 2019, the population was estimated at 4713 inhabitants, who are called Mundo-Novenses ( mundo-novenses ) and live in a community area of around 2146.7 km².
Geographical location
The municipality is located 429 km from the capital Goiânia, through the town the road GO-156 , which connects to the west with the state road GO-164 .

- in the north to the municipalities of São Miguel do Araguaia and Bonópolis
- to the east at Amaralina
- to the south at Uirapuru
- to the west at Nova Crixás
The biome is Brazilian cerrado . The Rio Crixás-Açu , Ribeirão Palmeiral, Córrego Jabuti, Córrego Tartaruga, Rio Crixás-Mirim, Rio Facão and Córrego São Jorge flow through the municipality .

The city has a tropical climate, Aw according to the Köppen and Geiger climate classification . The average temperature is 26.4 ° C. The average rainfall is 1520 mm per year.

history
The territory was previously under the municipality of Crixás . In 1960, the land buyer Valentim Lourenço from São Paulo built the Fazenda Nossa Senhora Aparecida and in 1963 donated an area for a settlement of 11 Alqueires mineros , that is around 53 hectares . As a result, farmers and small traders settled. On November 5, 1968, the Crixás subordinate Distrito de Mundo Novo de Goiás was established. On June 10, 1980, the place with its district area received the status of a Munizips with self-government and was spun off from Crixás.
Local politics
The first city prefect (mayor) was Valentim Lourenço from 1980 to 1988. In the local elections in Brazil in 2016 , Hélcio Alves de Oliveira of the PSD , who has held this office since 2013, was re- elected for the 2017 to 2020 term of office .
The legislature rests with a city council (Câmara Municipal) made up of nine elected city councilors (vereadores).
Population development
The community made an upward trend until the turn of the millennium, then the population fell. In 2010 around 24.8% of the population were children and young people up to the age of 15.

The average monthly income was 2,018 at the 1.8 times the minimum wage of Real R $ 880.00 (conversion August 2020: around 238 €), the annual gross national product per capita in 2017 was approximately 18,559 R $ and the Human Development Index (HDI ) in 2010 was the mean value 0.634.
Illiteracy rate
Mundo Novo had an illiteracy rate of around 41.3% in 1991 , which had already fallen to 25.9% in the 2010 census, and 49.2% had dropped out of school in 2010.
