history
The present region of the municipality was called Sesmaria das Rosas during colonial times and was on the route of expeditions with mules from Itapemirim to the surroundings of Catalão and towards Goyaz , the then capital of Goiás.
From 1904 the existence of a village center with a primary school is proven. The settlement, then called Samambaia , after the nearby stream of the same name, was renamed Cumari in 1908 , after the indigenous name of a plant found there: Cumari pepper . In the same year, accommodation for travelers and a trading company were created.
From 1910, with the construction of the railway line for the Estrada de Ferro de Goiás , the settlement made great strides. The railway construction had a great influence on the residents and the timber trade. The station with the station building was opened in 1913.
Administrative origins
In 1927 Cumari was raised to the district of Catalão and in 1931 it was separated from it and assigned to the new municipality of Goiandira. In 1943, the Cumari district acquired parts of the Catalão and Goiandira districts. On December 10, 1947 Cumari was raised to a municipality and separated from Goiandira on January 1, 1949.
On November 11, 1948, the district Annexuera was created by law and assigned to the municipality of Cumari. The Appendixuera district was raised to an independent municipality in 1953 when it was separated from Cumari.
