The Emborcação reservoir, Portuguese Barragem de Emborcação, or Lago Azul ("Blue Lake") is a large reservoir with a large hydropower plant in Brazil . It is located about 700 km northwest of Rio de Janeiro between the cities of Araguari and Catalão on the Rio Paranaíba .
The total volume of the reservoir is around 17,500 million, the usable volume 12,512 million cubic meters. The lake is widely ramified and has an area of 446 km². It is also used for fishing and water sports.
The dam stands on the border of Goiás and Minas Gerais , the waterworks and flood relief on the area of Minas Gerais.
The hydropower plant (Usina Hidrelátrica de Emboração e Miranda) was commissioned in 1982. It has four generators and an output of 1192 megawatts. It can be reached via the BR-050 road.
