Israelândia , officially Portuguese Município de Israelândia , is a Brazilian political municipality in the state of Goiás . It is located west-southwest of the Brazilian capital Brasília and 199 km from the capital Goiânia . As of July 1, 2019, the population was estimated at 2800 inhabitants, who live on a municipal area of around 577.5 km² and are called Israelandenses .
history
The origin of this settlement was the discovery of gold and diamond deposits on the Rio Claro and Córrego do Vaz in 1942 by the diamond and gold buyer Israel de Amorim, who settled there with his family. The community Amorinópolis in Goiás is named after Israel de Amorim . In 1953 it became a district of the municipality of Iporá under the name Monchão do Vaz and received city rights on November 14, 1958 as Munizip (Lei Estadual nº 2114) under the name Israelândia.
