MTN 8
The MTN 8 Wafa Wafa is a South African soccer cup competition. The competition was introduced as BP Top 8 in the National Premier Soccer League in 1972 and was initially sponsored by the oil company BP . From 1985 the cup was continued in league operations of the National Soccer League until the league was closed in 1996. The competition has been part of the Premier Soccer League program since 2000 . In 2003 the tournament was renamed SAA Supa 8 after the airline South African Airways through a change of sponsor , since 2008 the telecommunications company MTN has been the main sponsor and namesake.
The MTN 8 is the oldest cup competition still held in South Africa. The eight best teams in the championship of the previous year who play the winner in the knockout system are eligible to participate. The record winners are the Kaizer Chiefs , who won 14 of the 37 events; the second most popular title holder are the Orlando Pirates with eight successes.
