The Bloemfontein Celtic Football Club is a South African football club from Bloemfontein , which plays in the Premier Soccer League .
The Celtics are among the financially strongest clubs in the country and are very popular in the Free State province . The club was founded in 1969 as Mangaung United Football Club . In 1984 Petrus Molemela took over the association and changed the name to Bloemfontein Celtic .
In 1985 the team won the South African Cup.
After relegation in 2001 Molemela sold his shares to the former Celtic players Jimmy Augousti and Mmuso Tsoametsi. After three years, the team rose again in the 2003/04 season and since then has mostly held its own in the midfield of the league.
The club's home stadium is the Free State Stadium (also Vodacom Park ), which was the venue for the 2010 World Cup . The team plays in green and white striped jerseys.
