Shaun Thurston Bartlett (born October 31, 1972 in Cape Town ) is a South African football player who last played for Bloemfontein Celtic .

Career

Shaun Bartlett began his career in the youth of Vasco Da Gama . In 1992 he moved to Ajax Cape Town and played there until 1995. In 1996 he moved to Major League Soccer for the Colorado Rapids , where he scored a total of nine goals in 36 games. In 1997 he had a guest appearance for half a year with the NY / NJ MetroStars . He then played a year on loan to his old club Ajax Cape Town. In 1998 he moved to the Swiss club FC Zurich . By 2000 he had played 77 games and scored 38 goals. In 2000 he moved to England club Charlton Athletic for a year on loan . He played 18 games that year, scoring seven goals and was bought by Charlton Athletic for £ 2million. He won the Premier League Goal of the Year 2000/01 award with his beautiful volley against Leicester City . But at the end of the 2005/06 season, his contract was not renewed. During his time there, completed 123 games and scored 24 goals. He then went back to his home country to join the Kaizer Chiefs . After two years, 31 games and eleven goals, he ended his professional career for the time being. But after several conversations, he joined the Bloemfontein Celtics .

National team

He played his first game on April 26, 1995 in a 3-1 win over Lesotho . At the moment he is second among the record scorers with 28 goals. The front runner is Benni McCarthy with 32 goals. He won the 1996 African Cup of Nations with South Africa and played at the 1998 World Cup , where he scored two goals. In 2005 he finished his national team career with 74 games and 28 goals.
