Clifford Mulenga (born August 5, 1987 in Kabompo ) is a Zambian football player . He is used on the left wing.

Career

In the club

Mulenga played with the Chimparamba Great Eagles in his youth. In 2004 he moved to Pretoria University FC in the National First Division, the second-highest division in South Africa . For the next season he was loaned to the Swedish first division club Örgryte IS , but where he could not prevail. The subsequent attempt to recommend himself for a contract through a trial session with the French first division club SM Caen failed, so Mulenga returned to South Africa. In 2008 he switched to the Bidvest Wits in the top South African league, the Premier Soccer League. But after only half a season, Mulenga was loaned to league rivals Thanda Royal Zulu in early 2009 . For the 2009/10 season he moved to the Mpumalanga Black Aces , which he left after only one season. In the 2013-14 season he played again for the Black Aces. But for the following season Mulenga moved to Ajax Cape Town . After intermediate positions at Zesco United , Moroka Swallows and Mbombela United , Mulenga has been playing for Jomo Cosmos since June 2017 .

Mulenga was named best young player by the Confédération africaine de football (CAF) in 2007.

In the national team

Together with William Njovu , Mulenga led the Zambian U20 national team at the 2007 Junior World Cup in Canada in the round of 16, where they narrowly failed to Nigeria. In the Zambian national team he made his debut in February 2005 in a friendly against Botswana . At the end of December 2007 he was nominated by coach Patrick Phiri for the Africa Cup of 2008 in Ghana , where he played as a substitute in the first round match against Sudan .

At the Africa Cup of 2012 , Mulenga was also part of the Zambian squad. However, he was only substituted on in the last group game. Zambia reached the quarter-finals against Sudan , but Mulenga was sent home for disciplinary reasons after returning to the team hotel late after a party.
