Mineiros is a Brazilian political municipality and city in the state of Goiás in the mesoregion South Goiás and in the micro-region of Southwest de Goiás . It is located southwest of the Brazilian capital Brasília and the capital Goiânia at the border triangle of Goiás / Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul . In 2019, an estimated 66,801 people lived in Mineiros.

Geographical location

Mineiros borders the following municipalities:

• in the north at Ponta Branca ( MT )
• in the northeast at Doverlândia
• to the east on Caiapônia , Perolândia and Jataí , as well as the municipality of Portelândia as an enclave
• in the southeast with Serranópolis
• in the south of Chapadão do Céu , Costa Rica ( MS )
• to the west at Alto Taquari (MT), Alto Araguaia (MT) and Santa Rita do Araguaia

The Serra do Caiapo mountains, which run in the middle of the municipality from SW to NE , divide the municipality into two hydrological basins:

• To the north the Rio Araguaia / Tocantins basin
• To the south the Paraná basin with the main tributaries
