Postcode areas in Brazil after the first two digits

Código de Endereçamento Postal , abbreviated to CEP [ sæpĩ ], is the Brazilian postal code .

It was introduced in May 1971 by what was then the Brazilian company for post and telegraph services, initially with 5 digits. In May 1992 it was expanded to 8 digits in the form 54330-355. The first 5 digits designate regions and their sectors. The last 3 digits are either 000 or usually denote a street. In this example, Rua Raul Filho in the Cajueiro Seco district in the city of Jaboatão dos Guararapes in the state of Pernambuco in northeastern Brazil. In rural regions, where there are only small towns with few roads, the individual roads are not marked and "000" is generally used. If the last three digits are greater than 899, then there are special addresses.
