Abadiânia is a municipality ( município ) in the Brazilian state of Goiás . The place is internationally known for the Casa de Dom Inácio, a spiritual center of the medium João de Deus .

Geographical location

Abadiânia is located about 25 km northeast of Anápolis or 110 km southwest of Brasília on the BR-060 highway (Rodovia Governador Henrique Santillo).

history

Pioneers from Minas Gerais and Corumbá de Goiás founded the first settlement at the beginning of the nineteenth century. The fertile soil on the banks of the Rio Capivari and the Caruru offered ideal conditions for agriculture and livestock.

Local chronicles say that Dona Emerenciana has held processions in honor of the Blessed Virgin D'Abadia since 1874 , making the region a local pilgrimage center .

On December 31, 1943, the settlement was officially raised to a district (distrito) and on October 20, 1953 to the municipality (muncípio).

In 2005 the municipality of Abadiânia had a gross domestic product of around R $ 49.5 million (per capita: R $ 3,891). The human development index for the same year was 0.723.
