Colinas do Sul is a Brazilian political community in the state of Goiás in the mesoregion North Goiás and in the micro-region Chapada dos Veadeiros . It is located north of the Brazilian capital Brasília and north-northeast of the capital Goiânia .

Colinas do Sul also includes the localities ( port .: Distrios ): João, Lajes and Novo Oriente. On the northern border with Minaçu there is a reserve for the indigenous Ava-Canoeiro tribe .

Hydrographic location

Hydrographically, Colinas do Sul drains into the Rio Tocantins - Araguia basin to the north. Colinas do Sul is located east of the Serra da Mesa reservoir, the largest reservoir in Goiás in terms of water area and storage volume. Its outflow is the Rio Tocantins (also called Rio Maranhão), which forms the northern border with the municipality of Minaçu. The eastern border forms the Rio Preto to the municipality of Cavalcante, which flows into the Rio Tocantins as a right tributary. The southern border is formed by the Rio Tocantinzinho , which flows into the Serra da Mesa reservoir.

Climate and vegetation

The climate is typically tropical, semi-humid with high summer temperatures around 30 ° C with a humidity of 60–70% and heavy rainfall. In winter there is drought and drought lasting four to five months. The vegetation is characterized by the Cerrado - ecosystem .
