Piracanjuba is a Brazilian political municipality and small town in the state of Goías in the Meia Ponte microregion .
The community name is of indigenous origin and means about "yellow-headed fish" ( Brycon orbignyanus ). In the Tupi language , pira stands for fish , acanga or acã for head and yuba for yellow, blond .

The municipal area drains south into the Paraná basin . The two largest rivers are the Rio Meia Ponte in the west as the right tributary into the Rio Paranaíba and in the east the Rio Piracanjuba as the right tributary into the Itumbiara reservoir .
