The SV Germania Bietigheim is a football club from Bietigheim-Bissingen .

history

The club was founded in 1909, and had its most successful period in the 1960s and 1970s, when it played from 1960 to 1978, with only two breaks in the 1967/68 season and from 1971 to 1973, in the amateur league Württemberg , the top amateur class at the time . In 1962 the players of SV Germania Bietigheim won the WFV Cup . In the final in front of 2000 spectators in Esslingen, the Ellentäler defeated FV Nürtingen 2-0 with goals from Lutz and Babl. In addition to winning the WFV Cup, the club's greatest success was the runner-up in the amateur league Württemberg in 1976, with which Germania Bietigheim only just missed the promotion games to the 2nd Bundesliga .

In 1978, the club could neither qualify for the newly created Oberliga Baden-Württemberg , nor for the Association League established below it and had to join the state league. After the club was able to return to the association league three times, they finally said goodbye to higher-class football with the last relegation from the highest Württemberg league in 1988.

From 1988 to 1994 they played a good role in the state league before they disappeared into insignificance in terms of sport and after 2 relegations in a row in 1996 they were about to dissolve. The then sporting director Thomas Marbach and board member Heinz Schütt managed to put together a team shortly before the end of the transition period. Marbach and the new 1st board member Karl-Heinz Klein tried in the following years with Brazilian guest players to get the club back into the district league. This project ultimately failed in the penalty shoot-out in the promotion relegation games in 2001 when SV Germania lost to FC Marbach in Pleidelsheim and had to stay in the district league A. Only in the following year under coach Manfred Jung and with the departure of the Brazilian reinforcements, the Germanic tribes managed to return to the district league level in 2002.

In the following years they established themselves again in the district upper house and were able to land a respectable success under coach "Charly" Hayta in 2005 with the runner-up championship. After that, however, they sank visibly into mediocrity, only the 2010 cup victory under coach Marco Bärschneider polished up the years of sporting drought a little. The sporting misery reached its climax in 2012 when you had to go to the district league A, being bottom of the table.

The board of directors Holger Conrad and Oliver Häusler reacted and signed the former German player Matthias Schmid, who was supposed to bring about the immediate resurgence. Schmid, who had been released from GSV Pleidelsheim a few months earlier, was followed by numerous players from the GSV to the Germanic peoples, which at the time caused quite a stir. The project succeeded and after 2002 the Germans again won the title in the district league A combined with their return to the district league.

From 2013 the Germans were always among the first six teams, but could never play for one of the two top places until the end. It was not until the 2017/2018 season that the decision was made to upgrade the squad so that they could go into the round as favorites. At the end of the season the Germanic peoples lived up to their status and Schmid was able to celebrate the second promotion with the Germanic peoples and after 24 years lead the Germanic peoples back into the regional league.

Since the 2018/2019 season, SV Germania Bietigheim has been playing in the regional league season 1.
