The Deodoro Olympic Whitewater Stadium ( Portuguese Estádio de Canoagem Slalom ) is the whitewater facility in the X-Park Deodoro in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro . The canoe slalom competitions were held here during the 2016 Summer Olympics .

The plant was opened in November 2015 the first artificial whitewater course in the country and cost 45 million US dollars . The stadium has 8,000 spectators in one grandstand.

The facility has two channels: a 280 m long competition channel and a 210 m long training channel. The depth ranges from 1.80 m to 2.40 m. The structure of the competition channel consists of precast concrete, which allows better quality control of the finished concrete. The difference in height on the competition course is 4.5 meters, which corresponds to a gradient of 1.8%. The four pumps responsible for this section of the route achieve a total flow rate of 12 m³ / s. This corresponds to the white water category III-IV. The track is equipped with lighting. The kayaks can be transported back to the start using a canoe lift.

There is also a 25,000 m³ basin from which the water is pumped up into the channels by a total of 7 pumps. This can now be used by the public as a swimming pool.
