X-Park Deodoro
The X-Park Deodoro , also Parque Radical do Rio , is a sports park with two cycling facilities and a white water course in the western Deodoro district of Rio de Janeiro , which was created for the 2016 Summer Olympics . The park is located near a military academy, where other competitions in several sports were held in the Deodoro Olympic Park . BMX , mountain bike and canoe slalom competitions took place in the park . After the games, the facilities - with the exception of the land made available by the army for the BMX facility - were opened to the public as a sports and recreation area.
Sports facilities
Mountain bike facility
The 5440 meter long route, with its topographical obstacles and steep slopes and climbs, took up most of the X-Park. The highest point was at the 124 m high Morro do Jaques. After the games, part of the route was removed, creating a smaller mountain bike route.
BMX facility
A 400-meter-long BMX track with jumps and sharp bends is located on an area of 4000 square meters.
White water course
The Deodoro Olympic Whitewater Stadium includes a 250-meter long competition course and a 200-meter long canoe slalom training course . The water was pumped up using a total of 7 pumps. The facility cost about US $ 45 million.
The height difference of the 250 meter long competition course is 4.5 meters, which corresponds to a gradient of 1.8%. The four pumps responsible for this section of the route achieve a total flow rate of 12 m³ / s. This corresponds to the white water category III-IV. The track is equipped with lighting. The kayaks can be transported back to the start using a canoe lift.
The height difference is 2 meters on the 200 meter long training course, so that an average gradient of 1% is created. The water volume of 10.5 m³ / s is made available by three pumps. The white water category II-III is achieved on the training course. A canoe lift is also available for the training route.
