The Centro Olimpico de BMX ( German  Olympic BMX Center ) is a BMX - Velodrome in the X-Park Deodoro in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro . During the 2016 Summer Olympics , the BMX cycling competitions took place here .

history

When building the BMX track for the games, the aim was to create a very contemporary and challenging track. The project was designed by the architects Vigliecca & Associados and implemented by the Elite Trax company . They already built the track in Toronto for the Pan American Games 2015 and the Laoshan BMX Field for the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 .

The route was designed with the local topography and the prevailing winds in mind. The underground was built by the company GreenSet , which normally equips tennis courts. The waves were placed at intervals of 10 meters. For the women's competitions, the route was 350 meters long, whereas the men's was 50 meters longer. It started from a ramp.

The spaces between the sections were covered with artificial turf . Natural grass has been planted around the facility. Two temporary grandstands with a total of 7,500 seats were built during the Olympic Games. The route continued to exist.
