Riocentro is a conference and exhibition center in Barra da Tijuca , a district in the south-west of Rio de Janeiro . The center, built in 1977, includes five exhibition halls, administration offices and the five-star Grande Mercure hotel with 306 rooms. It is considered the largest of its kind in Latin America and has been operated by the French company GL Events since 2006 .

The five interconnected halls with a total area of ​​87,000 m² are located on the 57 hectare site.

Olympic Games 2016

The Riocentro was modernized for the 2016 Olympic Games and a sixth non-permanent hall was added. This provisional Hall 6 has an area of ​​14,000 m².

At the Olympic Games, the Riocentro is the venue for four sports. Weightlifting takes place in Hall 2, table tennis in Hall 3, badminton in Hall 4 and boxing in Hall 6. There are three sports at the Paralympics 2016 : powerlifting in Hall 2, table tennis in Hall 3 and sitting volleyball in Hall 6.
