Jaouad Achab (born August 20, 1992 in Tangier ) is a Belgian Taekwondo and World Champion of 2015.

successes

Achab was a multiple junior champion of Morocco. In Belgium he was noticed by the former European champion Laurence Rase , who brought him to Antwerp, where he was trained by Karim Dighou . He has been contesting international competitions since 2011 and has so far recorded 14 tournament victories. Including the gold medal at the Summer Universiade 2015 and the Taekwondo World Championships 2015 , where he won the title in the class up to 63 kg. At the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro 2016, Achab lost 7 to 11 in the battle for a bronze medal to South Korean Lee Dae-hoon .

Private life

Achab is of Moroccan origin and the third of four siblings. He moved to Brussels in 2009 and, although a good student in Morocco, was demoted to school because he had no language skills and no qualifications. In 2013 he was naturalized in Belgium. Today he is studying physiotherapy in Antwerp alongside sports .
