Laurence Rase (born April 4, 1977 in Mons ) is a former taekwondo and sports director of the Belgian Taekwondo Association.

career

Rase started Taekwondo at the age of 14, which was already practiced by her older siblings. This was initially based on the wish of her mother, who insisted that her daughters master self-defense. From 1993 Rase took part in international competitions and won several international tournaments in her career. Her greatest success was the European title in the 72 kg class. She was also able to win medals twice at world championships. In 2004 she took part in the Olympic Games in Athens , where she lost to the Brazilian Natalia Silva Falavigna in the quarterfinals .

After her career as an athlete, Rase became the sports director of the Flemish Federation in 2010 and was responsible for looking after and promoting top athletes in Belgium. The sporting success of the Belgian national team, which has provided several young European and world champions in recent years, can also be attributed to Rase.

Life

In addition to sport, Rase studied political science in Antwerp and also obtained a law degree from the University of Liège. She is the mother of a son.
