Taekwondo World Championships 1999
The 14th Taekwondo World Championship 1999 took place from June 2 to 6, 1999 in the Canadian city of Edmonton . The venue was the Alberta Butterdome . A total of 16 competitions were held in different weight classes, eight each for men and women. 550 athletes from 66 nations, including 320 men and 230 women, took part in the competitions. For the first time, the World Cup also represented an opportunity to qualify for the Olympic Games , after Taekwondo was added to the Olympic program for Sydney in 2000 .
