Gwladys Patience Épangue (born August 15, 1983 in Clichy ) is a French Taekwondoin .

She started her sport at the age of eleven and started for the La Courneuve Taekwondo Club . Épangue celebrated her first international success at the 2000 European Championships in Patras , where she reached the final in the weight class up to 55 kilograms and won silver. She won the title at the European Championships in Samsun in 2002 and in Lillehammer in 2004 . Épangue qualified for the Olympic Games in Athens , but retired there in their opening fight. Since 2005, Épangue has started in the higher weight class up to 67 kilograms. At the European Championship in Riga she won her third European title, at the World Championship in Madrid she won her first World Championship medal with silver. In the years 2006 to 2008 she also won a silver medal at the European and World Championships.

Épangue celebrated her greatest sporting success so far at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing . She reached the semi-finals and lost there to Hwang Kyung-seon , but won the bronze medal in the small final against Tina Morgan . At the 2009 World Championships in Copenhagen and in her new weight class up to 73 kilograms in Gyeongju in 2011 , she was world champion. The title win in 2009 was the first World Cup gold medal for a French Taekwondoin.

At the international qualification tournament in Baku in July 2011 , Épangue was able to qualify in the weight class over 67 kilograms for their third Olympic Games in London .
