Safwan Khalil (born May 15, 1986 in Tripoli , Libya ) is an Australian Taekwondoin . It starts in the weight class up to 58 kilograms.
Khalil is trained by his brother Ali at the Global Martial Arts Center in Sydney . His first international title fights in the adult division he played at the 2005 World Cup in Madrid , where he reached the round of 16. In the same year he was the first Oceania champion in Sydney. There were no further successes in the following years. It wasn't until 2011 that Khalil drew attention to himself again. At the Universiade in Shenzhen , he won the gold medal in the class up to 58 kilograms, which was the first victory of an Australian Taekwondo in a Universiade. In Nouméa , he finally won the Oceanic Olympic qualification tournament and secured participation in the 2012 Olympic Games in London . There he was defeated by Alexei Denissenko in the battle for the bronze medal.
Khalil is in a relationship with Carmen Marton , also Taekwondo and Olympian in London.
