Career

Abdoulrazak Issoufou Alfaga first came into contact with Taekwondo when he and his brothers visited a cousin who was fighting Taekwondo in 2001. The cousin died as a result of a battle injury, whereupon Issoufou Alfaga's father forbade his children to play. Three years later, Issoufou Alfaga was living with an uncle in neighboring Togo on the border with Benin . He enrolled in a Taekwondo club in Benin. There he won a local championship but turned down an offer to join the Benin national team. In 2009 he returned to Niger.

He became a member of the CHO association in Niamey and was nicknamed Daba Junior after his model Daba Modibo Keïta . Issoufou Alfaga subsequently became a Nigerian Taekwondo master several times. In December 2011 he took part in an international tournament for the first time in Ouagadougou . The following year he fought at the Taekwondo Youth World Championships 2012 in Sharm el-Sheikh . Issoufou Alfaga won silver at the Coupe du monde francophone de Taekwondo 2012 in Abidjan and gold at the Abuja Open 2013 in Abuja . The 2013 Taekwondo World Championships in Puebla ended without a podium for him. For this he won silver at the Taekwondo African Championships 2014 in Tunis and gold at the Coupe du monde francophone de Taekwondo 2014 in Dakar . He also returned from the 2015 US Open in Orlando with a gold medal . Issoufou Alfaga then followed the advice of his association to no longer take part in competitions in his home country Niger, but to concentrate exclusively on international tournaments.

At the 2015 Taekwondo World Championships in Chelyabinsk , he was eliminated in sixteenth place and at the 2015 Russian Grand Prix right after his first fight. The 2015 African Games in Brazzaville, however, earned him the gold medal. In order to perfect his skills, Issoufou Alfaga began several months of training at the Taekwondo Competence Center in Friedrichshafen in Germany . He and the Comité Olympique et Sportif National du Niger struggled to raise the cost of 95,000 euros. He now fought for the club BSV Friedrichshafen, for which he won gold at the Austrian Open 2015 in Innsbruck and silver at the Croatia Open 2015 in Zagreb .
