South Korea took part in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro . It was the 18th participation in the Summer Olympics. The Korean Olympic Committee nominated 204 athletes in 24 sports.

The standard bearer at the opening ceremony was to be the fencer Gu Bon-gil . Gu had won gold with the saber team in 2012 .
