Ryu Seung-woo ( kor. 류승우 ; born December 17, 1993 in Gimhae ) is a South Korean football player who has been under contract with Jeju United since 2017 and is on loan for Sangju Sangmu FC in 2019 .
Career
Beginnings in South Korea
Seung-woo Ryu played as an offensive player for Chung-Ang University as well as in the U-20 national team . At the U-20 World Cup in 2013 in Turkey , he scored a goal each in the group matches against Cuba in the 83rd minute and against Portugal in the 45th minute.
Move to Germany
In July 2013, the media reported an obligation by the Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund for less than € 500,000 transfer fee. Ryu shortly thereafter denied that an agreement had already been reached, and BVB announced on July 23 that he would waive the obligation.
On December 18, 2013, league competitor Bayer 04 Leverkusen announced that Ryus would be signed at the turn of the year for twelve months on loan; there was also a purchase option afterwards. He made his Bundesliga debut on January 25, 2014 in the first game after the winter break in the 3-2 defeat in the away game against SC Freiburg , when he came on for Heung-Min Son in the 83rd minute .
In mid-August 2014 Bayer 04 Leverkusen withdrew the option and tied Ryu until June 30, 2018. At the same time he was in the by the end of the 2nd Bundesliga at Eintracht Braunschweig borrowed. Ryu scored his first goal on November 2, 2014, when he scored a 1-0 lead in the 32nd minute of the 2-1 win over VfR Aalen . By the end of the year he scored three more goals. Due to his good performances, Ryu's loan was extended until the end of the season.
On February 1, 2016, the second division Arminia Bielefeld announced that they would loan Ryu until the end of the season . Ryu made his debut for Bielefeld on February 8, 2016 (20th matchday) when he came on for Christoph Hemlein in the 88th minute of his team's 2-1 home win over MSV Duisburg . After his return to Bayer 04 Leverkusen in July 2016, Ryu was not part of the professional team. Due to his participation in the Summer Olympics in Brazil , he also did not take part in the preparation of the club.
On August 30, 2016 he was awarded for one season to the Hungarian first division club Ferencváros Budapest .
After the loan ended in Hungary, he returned to his homeland and joined his first professional club, Jeju United .
