Uruguay took part in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro . It was the 21st participation in the Summer Olympics. The Comité Olímpico Uruguayo nominated 17 athletes in eight sports.

The flag bearer at the opening ceremony was the sailor Dolores Moreira .
