Jhonatan Esquivel

Jhonatan Esquivel (born October 13, 1988 in El Pinar ) is a Uruguayan rower .

Career

Esquivel is a member of the Montevideo Rowing Association . After he won the title in Paraguay at the Junior South American Championships there in 2006 alongside Danilo Franggi , Emanuel Bouvier and Santiago Menese in the open four-man class , he rowed with Danilo Franggi in the long-belt two-man without a helmsman in preparation for the Pan American Games in the Prepanamericano on the silver rank. He was then a member of the Uruguayan squad at those Pan American Games in 2007 . The following year he secured the silver medal in the four at the South American Championships held in Chile together with Germán Anchieri , Santiago Menese and Andrés Medina and added another bronze medal in the single competition to his track record. In 2009 he started again at the Junior South American Championships and won a silver medal in open two with Menese. The South American Games 2010 in Medellín were also very successful for him. There he won silver in the open two, in the open four and in the individual competition. At the Pan American Games in 2011 he was again part of the Uruguayan team. Esquivel was also part of the Uruguayan team at the South American Games in 2014 . There he won bronze on the side of Santiago Menese, Ángel García and Mauricio López in the double fours without helmsman. He took part with the Uruguayan team in the Pan American Games 2015 in Toronto and finished 10th. At the 2016 Olympic Games , he was the last of the C-Finals to reach 18th place overall in the singles competition.

Awards

As part of the awards for the best Uruguayan athletes of the period 2009–2010 (“Deportista del Año”), he was named the best athlete of the year 2009 in the rowing category by the Comité Olímpico Uruguayo in the Teatro Solís on March 28, 2011 together with Santiago Menese " excellent.
