India took part in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro . It was the 24th participation in the Summer Olympics. The Indian Olympic Association nominated 123 athletes in 15 sports, the largest Indian roster to date at the Summer Olympics.

The standard bearer at the opening ceremony was Abhinav Bindra .
