Jinson Johnson (born March 15, 1991 in Chakkittapara , Kerala ) is an Indian athlete who specializes in the 800 and 1500 meter run .

Athletic career

Jinson Johnson gained his first international experience in 2015 at the Asian Championships in Wuhan , where he won the silver medal over 800 meters behind Katari Musaeb Abdulrahman Balla in 1: 49.69 minutes . At the military world games in Mungyeong , South Korea , he made it to the semifinals. In 2016 he qualified for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where he was eliminated in the preliminary round with 1: 47.27 min . In 2017 he won the bronze medal over 800 meters in 1: 50.07 minutes at the Asian Championships in Bhubaneswar . In 2018 Johnson took part in the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast for the first time , where he finished fifth over 1500 meters with a new Indian national record of 3: 37.86 minutes. At the end of August he took part in the Asian Games in Jakarta for the first time , where he won over 1500 meters in 3: 44.72 minutes. In addition, he won the silver medal behind his compatriot Manjit Singh in the 800 meter run in 1: 46.35 minutes . In 2019 he could not finish his final run over 800 meters at the Asian Championships in Doha . He also qualified over 1500 meters for the World Championships in Doha, where he was eliminated with 3: 39.86 minutes in the lead . He then finished fifth at the Military World Games in Wuhan in 3: 49.34 minutes.

Johnson graduated from Baselius College Kottayam .
