Gagan Narang (born May 6, 1983 in Madras ) is a former Indian sports shooter .
successes
Gagan Narang took part in the Olympic Games four times . In 2004 he finished twelfth with the air rifle in Athens with 593 points, and he missed the final by just one point. Four years later he competed in three competitions in Beijing and improved to ninth place with the air rifle. With the small bore rifle he finished the competition in the three-position fight in 13th place and in the prone position in 35th place. At the 2012 Olympics in London , he qualified with the air rifleas third with 598 points for the final round. In this he scored a further 103.1 points, with which he finished the competition with 701.1 total points in third place behind Alin Moldoveanu and Niccolò Campriani and won the bronze medal. In the prone position with the small-bore rifle, he reached 18th place, in the three-position battle, 20th place. In his fourth and last Olympic participation in 2016 in Rio de Janeiro , he did not get past 23rd place with the air rifle, while he took 13th place with the small bore rifle in the prone position and 33rd place in the three-position fight .
In 2010 Gagan Narang won the bronze medal in the individual competition at the World Championships in Munich . He was also very successful at the continental level: in Bangkok in 2005 and in Doha in 2009 he was Asian champion with the air rifle, and in 2007 in Kuwait City with the small bore rifle in the prone position he took second place. In 2006 he won three bronze medals at the Asian Games in Doha. In the three-position battle with the small-bore rifle, he was third in both the individual and team competition, as well as with the air rifle team. In 2010 in Guangzhou he won the silver medal with the air rifle in both individual and team competitions. Narang also won numerous medals at the Commonwealth Games . In 2006 he won gold medals in individual and pair competitions with the air rifle in Melbourne and also remained victorious with the small bore rifle in three-position competition in individual and pair competitions. He repeated this success in New Delhi in 2010 when he again won gold medals in all four competitions. Four years later he secured the silver medal in the prone position and the bronze medal in the three-position fight in the individual competitions with the small caliber in Glasgow .
Narang holds a Bachelor of Computer Application from Osmania University in Hyderabad . For his sporting success he received the Arjuna Award , the Padma Shri and the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna .
