Abhinav Bindra ( Panjabi : ਅਭਿਨਵ ਬਿੰਦਰਾ * 28. September 1982 in Dehra Dun ) is an Indian sport shooter in the discipline air rifle .

Abhinav Bindra was discovered by JS Dhillon and has been trained by Swiss Gaby Bühlmann since 2000 . The Semi-Pro took the first time in 2000 in Sydney at Summer Olympics in part. In 2001 he set a world record at a competition in Munich . In 2002, the graduate in business administration won the Commonwealth Games in Manchester and was then awarded the most important sports prize in India, the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna , after having received the Arjuna Award in 2001 . He took part in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens and reached the final battle with an air rifle at 10 meters. In the final battle, the Chandigarher finished seventh with 694.6 rings. A year later he finished fourth at the Asian Championships in Bangkok with 695.3 rings. Bindra achieved his first outstanding success at international level in 2006 at the World Championships in Zagreb , where he won the title with the air rifle. The greatest success two years later was winning the gold medal at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing . It was the first gold medal for an Indian in an individual discipline, all other eight gold medals in India were won by the hockey men up to Bindra's triumph.
