Manpreet Kaur (born March 5, 1996 ) 1 is an Indian athlete who specializes in the shot put. In 2017 she became the Asian champion in the shot put for the first time and took part in the 2016 Summer Olympics for India.
Athletic career
Kaur competed in her first international competition at the 2007 World Youth Championships in Ostrava , where she finished ninth with 13.57 meters. In 2015 she took part in the Universiade in Gwangju , where she took sixth place. In the indoor season she took part in the Indoor Asian Championships in Doha , where she also finished sixth.
Manpreet Kaur was nominated by the Indian Olympic Association for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro and was allowed to take part in the shot put competition there . In the qualification, she reached her greatest distance in her second attempt with 17.06 meters. With that she finished 23rd after qualification and dropped out of the competition early.
At the 2017 Asian Championships in Bhubaneswar , she reached a distance of 18.28 meters, winning the gold medal ahead of Guo Tianqian from China and Aya Ota from Japan . Despite the Asian Cup, Manpreet Kaur did not take part in the 2017 World Athletics Championships in London .
