Carl Markees (also: Karl Markees; born February 10, 1865 in Chur ; † December 4, 1926 ) was a Swiss violinist, music teacher and composer.

After attending grammar school in Basel, Markees studied violin from 1881 at the Royal Academic College for Performing Music in Berlin, first with E. Wirths and later with Joseph Joachim . From 1884 to 1886 he was first violinist with the Berlin Philharmonic . From 1889 he was professor for violin at the Berlin University and succeeded his teacher Joachim. His students included u. a. Bronisław Huberman , Leonora Jackson , Gustav Havemann , Andō Kō , Paul Erdensohn , Corinne Coryn , Francis Macmillan and Harold Sumberg .

In addition, he undertook concert tours through Germany, Switzerland, Italy and Turkey and was a chamber musician a. a. active in the Kruse and Halir Quartet . He owned a violin from the workshop of the master Antonio Stradivari . Markees wrote technical studies for the violin and composed pieces for violin and piano.
