As of September 27, 2018 |
Lin Dan ( Chinese 林丹 , Pinyin Lín Dān , born October 14, 1983 in the Linjiang ( Shanghang ) community in Longyan , Fujian , People's Republic of China ) is a former Chinese badminton player . In men's singles, he won gold twice at the Olympic Games , five times the World Championship and six times the All England . At the age of 28 he was the first and only player to win the so-called "Super Grand Slam" by winning all major tournaments: Olympic Games , World Championship , All England, Thomas Cup , Sudirman Cup , World Cup , BWF World Superseries Finals , Asian Games and Asian Championship . He is described by many experts as the best player of all time.
Lin Dan was also the first player in the men's singles to win the Olympic Games repeatedly after 2008 in Beijing , also in 2012 in London .
Personal
Lin Dan learned to play the piano at an early age, but chose badminton when he was five. He joined the People's Liberation Army as a sports soldier at the age of 13 and has been part of the Chinese national badminton team since 2001 .
On April 10, 2008, Lin Dan caused a stir when he physically assaulted Chinese national coach Ji Xinpeng in front of teammates and reporters during a tournament leading up to the Thomas Cup .
On December 13, 2010, Lin Dan got engaged to his long-time partner, former world champion in women's individual badminton, Xie Xingfang in Haizhu , Guangzhou . On September 23, 2012, the wedding and subsequent celebration took place at the Beijing Polytechnic University .
Lin Dan has at least five tattoos that first appeared at the All England 2012. He wears a cross on his left upper arm in memory of his Christian grandmother. Five stars on his left forearm symbolize his great titles. The tattoo on his right upper arm with the text "Until the end of world" is the English translation of the song "世界 が 終 る ま で は ..." (Sekai ga Owaru made wa ...) by the Japanese band Wands, which is featured in his favorite anime Slam Dunk occurs. The double "F" on his right forearm stands for "Fang Fang" , the nickname of his wife Xie Xingfang. His initials "LD" are tattooed on his neck. These tattoos caused controversy because of his military service and religion.
On October 17, 2012, Lin Dan became the first active Chinese badminton player to graduate from Huaqiao University .
On November 4, 2016, Lin Dan and his wife Xie Xingfang had a son.
World ranking
With the release of the BWF - world rankings on 26 February 2004 led Lin Dan to this for the first time. Again and again, he had a lead of over 15,000 points over the runner-up in the ranking list over long periods of time. It is worth knowing that if you win a World Cup or win the Olympic Games, the winner will be awarded 12,000 points. From August 21, 2008, Lee Chong Wei from Malaysia led the world rankings for three years and ten months, until Lin Dan was back at number 1 for 14 weeks on June 21, 2012. From September 27, 2012, Lee Chong Wei took over the top of the world rankings again.
